Unfortunately, sexual abuse happens and sometimes it happens at the one place where children should always feel safe: school. Proving sexual abuse at a school and making a case for a lawsuit can be a difficult situation to go through, but with the right legal representation, you can get the help you need.

The legal team should always be sensitive to the case and respect the victim by setting boundaries, but still finding a way to get the justice that they deserve.

If your child has been a victim of sexual abuse, you should follow these steps:

1)   Talk with a lawyer and know your rights. This means sharing all of the details of the case so they can give you the best advice based on your situation. Remember, every case is different.

2)   Every school needs to have some sort of sexual abuse protocol in place. Make sure to be aware of it and follow the protocol. It is important to go to the right person that will be able to address the situation properly.

3)   Always report to authorities as soon as possible. This is also the time that you will start to build a case.

4)   Gather evidence like documentation of events that includes location, date, time, details, and witnesses. Also, save any photos, recordings, texts or emails that could help your case.

Your attorney will be in charge of investigating the case thoroughly. They will talk with experts and will be knowledgeable on what evidence you need to bring a claim forward. Filing a sexual abuse claim can be difficult, but it can be helpful to be prepared with all of the details.

Keep in mind that this could be a rough road ahead of you. Some sexual abuse cases are agonizing and long. With a trusted and experienced legal time on your side, you can get through it and get the justice you deserve.
